Event planning is the process of planning a festival, ceremony, competition, party, or convention.

Event planning includes budgeting, establishing dates and alternate dates, selecting and reserving the event site, acquiring permits, and coordinating transportation and parking.

Event planning also includes some or all of the following, depending on the event: developing a theme or motif for the event, arranging for speakers and alternate speakers, coordinating location support (such as electricity and other utilities), arranging decor, tables, chairs, tents, event support and security, catering, police, fire, portable toilets, parking, signage, emergency plans, health care professionals, and cleanup.

Event Planning is a relatively new career field. There is now training that helps one trying to break into the career field. There must be training for an event planner to handle all the pressure and work efficiently. This career deals with a lot of communication and organization aspects. There are many different names for an event planner such as a conference coordinator, a convention planner, a special event coordinator, and a meeting manager.

What should we name our event planning business?
Q. My friend & I are setting up our event planning business but are stuck on picking out a name. We already have a few clients so now we REALLY need a name so we can get started on planning & payments! We're going to be doing weddings, baby showers, bridal showers, & birthdays. Not only do we do the planning, we also make stationery, favors, and some of the other decor. So I don't want the name to be too specific since we cover so much ground. Any suggestions??

A. I'd name it something that fits the following criteria: 1) Easy to remember 2) Has a URL available so you can get a great website name 3) Describes what your business does 4) If appropriate for your target market 5) Means something to you If it fits that criteria, it is probably a good name.

How do i go by starting a successful event planning business?
Q. just basic event to begin with no weddings mostly looking to work in the corporate world planning small corporate business event.

A. first, look at the competition around you. see what they offer. make sure you can offer the same services or better. second, make contacts. make sure you know where and who to call for locations, food, flowers, gifts, anything that you would need for your business. you may get a company that wants to throw a dinner and give their guest items with the company logo. make sure you know where you can get them. if you are going to place the order for the customer make sure you are dealing with someone who can deliver on a promise and not just tell you "it will be ready if 5days" and it takes two weeks. Plan a couple of events for either friends and family just so that you can say that you have done it before. maybe see if companies want to… [cont.]

What school is better to choose from for wedding/event planning, Sheffield School or Penn Foster?
Q. Im looking into wedding/event planning courses and i've narrowed it down to two. I've heard great things about both but I wanted to get some opinions from other people to see what choice would be greater to my advantage.

A. my advice is dont listen to the other guy who answered ... ive been also looking into this career and im finding a lot of people started out by helping others and networking and they didnt even take a course , but thats just another option ... i dont really know much about programs offered at those particular schools but i would be inclined to look at what is required for the program i know if i went to one college i would spend three years learning how to become an event manager, but if i went to another one in the same city it would only take me a year to get a certification, personally im choosing the one that requires 3 years of studying because i believe that i will get a better education, but thats just me, if you need to figure out… [cont.]
